as we continued shooting we had to re film scenes and we also had to film out of order like for instance we have the middle of the film done but we need the beginning and the end to film we need to schedule a time when we can film and finish it all at once but all my actors can’t make it sometimes. I need to get better at explaining what I want from the actors. like what kind of emotion I want them to show and just in general get better at directing. and editing and working with lights. we all have assigned roles we have in the project but we all still kind of do everything together and work together to finish the final product.

as I was conducting my research for the vertical and horizontal case studies I was surprised that they released many promotional stuff for the film even after many years that the film has been released. also how some of the big blockbuster movies where made from smaller companies that the big conglomerate owns which just distributes it. it could be dangerous because having so many companies could cause problems because some may want to do their own projects that may not be aloud by the big conglomerate because if they make a movie that is unusual by the big conglomerate that could make the reputation of the main conglomerate look bad.

after learning about vertical and horizontal integration and there differences. vertical integration is when a media company owns a different businesses in the same chain of production and distributors for instance Disney has other company’s that help make money for the bigger company like the theme parks the restaurants and the small toys that are sold all help make money for Disneyland the other entertainment distributors. for instance Disney owns Walt Disney studio, touch stone picture, marvel, Disney nature, abc, espy, and freeform are all Disney owned companies.

and horizontal integration is when a company such as Disney targets a different audiences. Disney is know for targeting the kids but they have distributed movies that are darker and more for the older crowd. the movie “down and out in Beverly Hills was their first rated R movie and it was distributed under touch stone pictures so it was Disney but Disney owns touchstones so in away the movies is still owned by Disney. horizontal integration kind of focuses on the fact that people don’t need to go to the movies no more cause we just watch everything on our phones and that can be a problem for television because on our phones we skip ads on tv we can’t skip anything its all live. so this is the things I have learned about vertical and horizontal integration.

I have decided I wanted to change the script as we have began shooting something that is a little more easier to finish for a 2 minute film. but I have not brought it up to my group members yet. so I have to see what they think about the new script we will decide what script we want to use as the final product. but I can start filming of the new script and then bring the group members up to pace with whats going on in the script or we can just go on with the original script but it might be harder to accomplish.

we have to pay attention to the backgrounds of the location. decide if it fits the scene or not and if we will even have access to some locations. for my new script I know 100% sure that we will have access to location thats why I made a new script because I was unsure if we would have access to the different locations that we need in the first script that we made.

as we continue shooting we continue to have trouble with lighting we are trying different angles and how to make the lighting look good on our actors. and the sound issues we got a mic so the sound is clear and not so much of that windy sound. we have only shot one scene but still having trouble shooting that one scene because of the problems were having. I am still trying to find out ways that I can solve these problems so that for the other scenes the shooting will go smooth.

so for hegomonic theory the movie we chose is beauty and the beast. because in the film the character Gaston is well known and very macsuline and gets all the ladies. while his little friend is not very well known and tries to be just like Gaston and make everyone like him just like they like Gaston but really know one will ever really know him if Gaston is around.

Another reason is when Gaston tries to get bell to be his wife but she refuses to. He gets upset because he usually gets his way. So he acts like an alpha male that he is and does everything in his powers to force bell to marry him no matter what it takes.

For marxist theory we choose shrek because he is known as a scary ogre that does not like anyone. its really that nobody likes him everyone thinks he’s disgusting because of how he lives his life in the swamps but he is really happy how he lives and he has his best friend donkey with him. but even still he thinks Shrek should change how he lives. Shrek becomes a hero though once a bunch of fairy tail characters gets banished from their kingdoms and Shrek is the one that saves them all.

one of the biggest challenges was to get the lighting just right for of the scenes the low key lighting was one of the hardest lights to get perfect we had to try to get dim lighting for a scene and we are still working on it because it did not look right. and the frame work was difficult to get not as much as the lighting but overtime we tried to shoot it doesn’t look like how we imagined it when we story boarded the scene and we just didn’t like it.

we worked around these problems just by filming in other locations and trying to experiment with other things that may work. The continuity of the film can be hard at times by at as a group we worked together to solve the problems that we had. for instance I don’t have a good camera I just have my phone but Jose’s mom has good camera’s and a nice tripod that we can use and that equipment will help us finish the project but the thing is we can not always use that equipment so sometimes we have to use an iPhone so the quality may look different at times but we use the resources that we have and make the most out of it.

so before my group begin shooting we made an equipment list. I have gotten some equipment already. I have a mic and a tripod but I need a good quality camera for right now Im using my phone to shoot until I can get a camera and I have talked to a friend and he said I could barrow one of his cameras but for now I have a mic for my phone and a tripod. my group need to get lights I haven’t looked into any lighting equipment yet but I will start looking into lights this week.

I feel like I could we could shorten the script but I already know that we will be shooting stuff that we will have to cut out so I feel like me and my group just have to experiment with stuff and see what scenes we want to shoot first and just go from their. we already did our story boarding so we already have a blueprint of how we are gonna make the scenes look and what kind of shots we would like to do. but even then when we start shooting we might not like it when its shot so we might just change it at the last second and that is absolutely alright. but I still need to find actors just right for the project I mean we could just use us that are in the group but we are kind of sort of comedic and these characters are more serious which my group and I kind of joke around a lot that why I think we would fit comedic roles. these characters are more tense and serious so we just need to find people that fit our characters and help play the roles that me and my group members envisioned.

i used the information in my case studies about cross-media studies and synergy that was used in the venom film. i talked about it in the case study but i didn’t realize that we were talking bout synergy and Cross-media convergence. for instance venom used playstation in the movie that is product placement and is considered synergy.

There was some extra research that I had to do. I had to get more information on the doemestic ticket sales and the foreign ticket sales. and also what kind of specific target audiences the film tried to attract to go see the movie and its not that one type of races of people are targeted its just that a movie might attract more to a different type of people not everyone liked the same. like when the movie first released in theaters a lot of latinos filled the theater and then African Americans and next was whites but it was shown that not a lot of whites like to go to the movies so thats why more people of color are more likely to fill the theaters.

what I learned about the room videos is that its mainly about what is in the room that describes and represents a person in a way that the audience didn’t know before and also how film makers place something in an area to show kind and you can get to know a persons character by seeing what they have in their room because a persons room tells us a little bit about someone.

peoples personality is all shoved in to one place and that most likely will be their rooms. in public most people act different and are scared to act like themselves but their is one place where everyone feels safe and that is their room and it shows how a person is or what they like. so I’ve learned how to use these techniques in film to make a more detailed characters cuz the surroundings of a room can tell a lot about a character.
